By joining our Department of Aviation as an AVIATION MECHANIC II in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to repair, modify and conduct routine maintenance of state-owned aircraft.


Holders of the AVIATION MECHANIC II position will complete tasks such as:

  • Repairs, modifies and conducts routine maintenance of state-owned piston and turbine airplanes and helicopters according to technical standard orders for each aircraft.
  • Repairs aircraft structures, flight control components, electrical devices, engine components (Pratt and Whitney, Rolls Royce and Lycoming) and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs 100-hour inspections and troubleshoots and repairs aircraft discrepancies.
  • Maintains all necessary aircraft records to include aircraft log and required Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) forms. Maintains shop and necessary support equipment.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Performs daily inspections on aircraft to determine airworthiness.
  • Makes repairs and corrections on the spot to ensure the safety of the flight.
  • Maintains shop and necessary support equipment.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Experience in Airframe and Power Plant repair on aircraft.
  • Operate aviation maintenance computer software.
  • Be willing to fly in state aircraft on maintenance flights.
Required to maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Work is typically performed in an airport setting. Climbing, bending, stooping and standing for prolonged periods on concrete, metal surfaces and on top of helicopters. Maintain a valid driver's license and required to drive a licensed vehicle.
