About the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior

The Department of Neurobiology and Behavior (NB&B) has a distinguished faculty of 23 whose interests range from the intrinsic properties of neurons to the organization of animal societies. Research in the Department falls into five core areas: cellular and molecular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, computational neuroscience, chemical ecology, and animal social behavior. Faculty members have integrative programs of research that span different levels of analysis. The Department is housed in both the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) with an overall budget of 9.3 million and sponsored activity of 3.4 million.

The Opportunity

The Investigative Biology Teaching Laboratories offer a range of courses in biology, science communication, and teaching assistant training. The labs also oversee the Science Communication undergraduate minor and the Research Internship program in Hungary. We are seeking a dedicated Course Coordinator with excellent interpersonal and management skills to support the wide variety of programs and initiatives within the teaching laboratories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between undergraduate students, graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants, course instructors, and lab staff, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide administrative support across all teaching lab activities.
  • Represent the Investigative Biology Teaching Laboratories in a student-facing role, maintaining consistent communication across multiple platforms, including phone, email, website, social media, and learning management systems.
  • Oversee the preparation, distribution, and maintenance of course materials, both online and in print.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of educational research materials.
  • Work closely with the Director of the Laboratories and the Education Research Postdoctoral Associate to ensure smooth program operations.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 4:1 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement, with the remote day being Friday. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

  • Hold a High School Diploma and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Have excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, calendar programs, and email.
  • Have attention to detail and be punctual.
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Work effectively with a diverse group, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrate office professionalism.
  • Work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • B.S. or B.A. in related field.
  • Communication experience with college students; especially first-year students.
  • Experience with office procedures.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to diplomatically manage various situations.
  • Broad computer experience, including creating written document and infographics.
  • Experience managing/updating websites and databases or demonstrates an ability to learn.
  • Knowledge of Cornell systems, including Canvas, Concur, Faculty Center, Workday and eShop.
