Job Description

The Axel Group is seeking a Planner to join our client’s team in Burlington County, New Jersey. This company is a well-known multidiscipline engineering firm, providing engineering, planning, environmental and surveying services to clients throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.

Within this position, the Planner will conduct community consultations, recommend policy and guidelines on land use, environmental issues, transportation, and housing, prepare reports on demographic, economic, cultural, and social issues, and prepare plans for developing private land or public spaces.

Those with the New Jersey Professional Planner (PP) license and AICP Certification are encouraged to apply, along within those who have the ability to become licensed within the next few years!

• Prepare and oversee the development of master plans, ensuring they align with community goals and regulatory requirements
• Develop and implement affordable housing plans, including Housing Elements and Fair Share Plans, to address community needs and compliance
• Review and assess development applications for land use boards, providing expert recommendations and ensuring alignment with zoning and planning regulations
• Serve as the primary contact for clients, understanding their needs, and delivering tailored solutions
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and project management
• Oversee projects from inception to completion, including submission to clients, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
• Prepare and testify in support of expert witness reports, Redevelopment Studies, and Redevelopment Plans
• Ensure compliance with land use and zoning ordinances
• Lead, mentor, and manage junior staff members, fostering professional development and ensuring project success
• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in municipal planning, land use planning, and/or project management. This includes the preparation of master plans, affordable housing plans, land use boards, redevelopment studies and plans, and zoning ordinances
• Bachelor’s Degree AND/OR Master’s degree in Planning or comparable degree, required
• New Jersey Professional Planner (PP) license and AICP Certification, highly preferred
• Ability and willingness to obtain PP and AICP within first 1/2 years of employment, required
• Strong writing and oral communication skills
• Public speaking experience
• Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively
• Demonstrated ability to interact with clients, understand their needs, and develop practical solutions
