Surgery Assistant - Small Animal Care & Surgical Support

We are seeking a Surgery Assistant to join the vivarium operations team at a cutting-edge biotech company. This role is perfect for someone with broad experience in small animal care and surgical support who thrives in a dynamic setting. This client are based in South San Francisco, CA, and are looking to hire on an initial contracting basis, which should run through to November 2025. As a w2 contract worker you are eligible to a benefits package including health/dental/vision/life insurance, a 401k vehicle and more.

Pay rate: $25-26.50/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process and sterilize laboratory reagents and supplies.
• Restock, organize, and store samples to ensure safety and sample integrity.
• Clean and maintain surgical equipment.
• Assist surgeons by administering anesthetic agents, intravenous fluids, and monitoring anesthesia and post-surgical recovery.
• Support feeding, caging, and space requirements for laboratory animals.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in Animal Science or related field preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience handling mice as a surgery assistant.
• Previous industry experience is preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Strong communication, record-keeping, and organizational skills.
