About Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach

API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization focused on the Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, and immigrant communities of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Valley. A growing community-based organization founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate direct services to the most marginalized segments of our community including low-income women, seniors, immigrants, and youth. With offices in Oakland and San Francisco, our work is focused in the areas of Gender-based Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Disability Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth Violence Prevention, Anti API Hate Violence, the preservation of affordable housing and small businesses, and other social justice issues.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Youth Program Project Manager, the Youth Outreach Project Manager will work with the APILO Youth Project and manage the Youth Advisory Council internship, including planning and implementing programs and educational events. This role is based primarily in our Oakland office, with additional responsibilities linked to our San Francisco office. The role requires a strong commitment to social justice, with frequent interactions with a wide range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to serving underserved Asian and Pacific Islander communities and BIPOC communities in the Greater Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain training in social services management relevant to work of all case management of all projects.
  • Obtain training in counseling services relevant to the work of the youth project.
  • Complete training on database reporting and time management.
  • Develop and implement plans to serve more at-risk youth especially those who have little alternatives for extra curricular program participation.
  • Obtain certification as a domestic violence counselor under California law, preferable from Asian Women's Shelter or a youth of color serving agency.
  • Provide management and coordination for APILO project areas; supervision and mentoring of staff; coordination of pro bono support.
  • Provide legal, counseling, and/or social services, advocacy and/or case management to low-income clients in the project area.
  • Act as primary contact with project related community partners and other community organizations.
  • Work with grants management staff to compile and report on service data.
  • Draft all necessary reporting for funders and the organization.
  • Coordinate community education and outreach for projects.
  • Provide evaluations of project services and performance of project staff
  • Represent the organization at community, legal, and other meetings and functions, including meetings of funders and donors.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to community agencies and partners.
  • Assist with administrative and fundraising work of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years experience in community organizing and/or social services to youth with survivors of interpersonal violence, youth violence, human trafficking in the Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino, or other communities of color.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and to serve disadvantaged persons.
  • Completion of 40-hour domestic violence counselor training or willingness to complete such training.
  • Ability to work well in a team oriented, multicultural work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Bilingual/bicultural skills (Spanish, Cantonese, or other API language)
