TITLE THIS POSITION REPORTS TO : Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, High School and Non-Degree

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (This position includes significant evening and weekend hours)

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: May 27, 2025-August 8, 2025

MODALITY: In Person (Live-in requirement- June 2, 2025-August 9, 2025; housing provided)

COMPENSATION: $25-$30/ hour (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for High School & Non-Degree Programs, the Coordinator will provide key support in areas of student conduct, safety planning, and residential life for Pre-College and Visiting programs, assisting the team in promoting a safe, welcoming, and engaging experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with students and parents to schedule conduct hearings within 48 hours of an incident.
  • Serve as a co-hearing officer for all student conduct cases in pre-college and non-degree programs.
  • Support the investigations, management, and resolutions of student conduct cases in compliance with institutional policies, ensuring timely and fair adjudication.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to address violations of the student code of conduct, including academic integrity, harassment, discrimination, and other behavioral infractions.
  • Track and document student conduct cases, maintaining detailed records and case files in a secure, confidential manner.
  • Help compile data for regular reports on conduct trends and outcomes for senior leadership.
  • Assist in coordinating communication efforts with program staff regarding incidents and follow-up actions as directed by program leadership.
  • Help organize debriefing sessions for staff after incidents, supporting documentation of lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Serve as a secondary contact for incidents on field trips, assisting with documentation and follow-up in collaboration with program leadership.
  • In conjunction with Assistant Dean, conduct sensitive conversations with parents/guardians in the event of incidents, offering reassurance, detailed explanations, and follow-up steps.
  • Provide logistical support for staff training and help monitor the ongoing needs of residential staff and students.
  • Help coordinate logistics for student excursions and serve as a point of contact for staff and students regarding residential life questions.
  • Support cross-departmental training sessions by helping to organize materials and coordinating with trainers.
  • Act as a general resource to all employees of the Internship in Building Community and lead training workshops
  • Attend all required training workshops as determined by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, High School, and Non-Degree Programs.
  • Act as a model of proper behavior and attitude for the students and interns of the program, a responsibility that extends to all instances in which the incumbent is acting in an official capacity or interacting with community members.
  • Engage seriously in the program and seek to make a contribution that furthers the goal of building community among the interns, staff, and Pre-College students

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED OR REQUESTED

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • 1-2 years of experience in an administrative support role, preferably in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an administrative role in Columbia University’s Pre-College Programs or a pre-college program at another college/university.

  • Proven ability to effectively work and lead within a collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple technology platforms and online tools.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple work streams.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a mature, professional manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must undergo a mandatory background check – employment contingent upon results
  • Must live on-campus in program-provided housing for the duration of employment
